We work with plans as a technology-enabled provider of peer support.

Our clinical model is a combination of 1-1 coaching from a certified peer and 24/7 access to an anonymous recovery community.

Successful Partnerships are based in the Community

Peers reduce total cost of care by engaging members and activating them in their own health. This increases utilization of proactive services such as MAT [1] and primary care [2], causing a downstream reduction in rescue & inpatient care [3].

When we enter a state, we hire local peers that engage your existing network of behavioral health providers to enroll members. Local peers are integrated within Marigold’s national peer team, with oversight provided from a trained peer supervisor and a physician board-certified in Addiction Medicine.

  1. Medication-Assisted Treatment for Substance Use Disorders
  2. Peers increase retention in outpatient care, SAMHSA 2017
  3. Peers reduce the duration and frequency of inpatient stays, Optum 2020

Technology Links Peer Support to the Larger Care Team

Our natural language processing (NLP) technology analyzes group engagement to flag relevant clinical and nonclinical needs, triggering “alerts” that can be sent to individual staff. This can include a counselor, plan care manager, and/or primary care doctor.

All of our technology is HIPAA and 42 CFR Part II Compliant.

How do we define success?

Step 1: Engage Members with the Most Need.

Many members who aren’t ready to talk to a case manager will message into an anonymous support group. Marigold’s peers lead groups and tailor them to those served.

Step 2: Stabilize Members in Proactive Interventions

Despite their efficacy, retention in cost-effective interventions such as MAT remains poor. In groups, Marigold members encourage each other to be proactive in their own health, with certified peers following up after a member expresses a need.

Step 3: Reduce Inpatient and Rescue Care

By retaining patients in proactive interventions, we expect a downstream reduction in inpatient medical stays. By giving patients 24/7 access to support, they can reach out to avoid an ER visit.
